Gray 28, Scarlet 17
Linebacker Jerome Baker (No. 17) made an incredible one-handed interception, but receiver Torrance Gibson (No. 6) scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the Gray team to a 28-17 win over the Scarlet team. The Buckeyes wore a helmet decal honoring late New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith, who played in Columbus from 2000-03. Smith was shot and killed one week prior after a traffic accident.
Bowling Green – Sept. 3
#6 Buckeyes 77, Falcons 10
Quarterback J.T. Barrett accounted for seven touchdowns — six passing and one rushing — as Ohio State racked up a school record 776 yards of offense in a 77-10 win over Bowling Green. Punter Cameron Johnston (No. 95) had a quiet day with one punt for 48 yards, but notably wore an Australian flag decal on his helmet as a nod to his home country. The Buckeyes also donned three-dimensional Big Ten helmet bumpers.
Tulsa – Sept. 10
#4 Buckeyes 48, Golden Hurricane 3
In a game which featured a torrential downpour and an hour-long lightning delay, Ohio State used cornerback Marshon Lattimore’s (No. 2) pick six right before halftime to run away from Tulsa, 48-3. The Buckeyes recorded four interceptions total — two by Lattimore — while keeping one of the country’s most potent offenses out of the end zone.
at Oklahoma – Sept. 17
#3 Buckeyes 45, #14 Sooners 24
Wide receiver Noah Brown (No. 80) tied an Ohio State record with four touchdown receptions, including one where he pinned the ball behind the defender’s back, as the Buckeyes rolled past Oklahoma, 45-24, in Norman.
Rutgers – Oct. 1
#2 Buckeyes 58, Scarlet Knights 0
Quarterback J.T. Barrett (No. 16) broke the school record for career touchdowns passes with the third as Ohio State throttled Rutgers, 58-0. The Buckeyes’ defense forced the Scarlet Knights to punt on each of their 10 drives.
Indiana – Oct. 8
#2 Buckeyes 38, Hoosiers 17
Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett (No. 16) rushed a career-high 26 times for 137 yards and a touchdown to help the Buckeyes beat Indiana, 38-17.
at Wisconsin – Oct. 15
#2 Buckeyes 30, #8 Badgers 23 (OT)
J.T. Barrett (No. 16) hit wide receiver Noah Brown in the corner of the end zone from seven yards out to help Ohio State overcome a 10-point halftime deficit to beat Wisconsin, 30-23, in overtime.
at Penn State – Oct. 22
Nittany Lions 24, #2 Buckeyes 21
Running back Curtis Samuel (No. 4) gave Ohio State a 14-point third-quarter lead with a 74-yard touchdown run, but Penn State returned a blocked field goal 60 yards for a score late in the fourth quarter to upset the Buckeyes, 24-21.
Northwestern – Oct. 29
#6 Buckeyes 24, Wildcats 20
Running back Mike Weber (No. 25) rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns to help Ohio State to a 24-20, tougher-than-expected win over Northwestern.
Nebraska– Nov. 5
#6 Buckeyes 62, #10 Cornhuskers 3
Donning alternates based on what the team wore during the Chic Harley era (1916-19) and a helmet meant to resemble a cannonball, Ohio State dominated Nebraska, 62-3. Quarterback J.T. Barrett (No. 16) threw four touchdown passes. The Buckeyes also wore helmet decals to honor two-time All-American defensive lineman John Hicks, who passed away earlier in the week from complications from diabetes.
at Maryland – Nov. 12
Buckeyes 63, Terrapins 3
Quarterback J.T. Barrett accounted for four touchdowns and running back Curtis Samuel (No. 4) scored three times to lead Ohio State to its second-consecutive 62-3 route — this time against Maryland.
at Michigan State – Nov. 19
#2 Buckeyes 17, Spartans 16
Playing in his home state and against several of his former high school teammates, running back Mike Weber (No. 25) rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown to give Ohio State a 17-16 win over upset-minded Michigan State. The Spartans missed a two-point conversion attempt with minutes remaining.
Michigan – Nov. 26
#2 Buckeyes 30, #3 Wolverines 27 (OT)
Running back Curtis Samuel’s 15-yard touchdown run shortly after Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett (No. 16) barely converted a 4th-and-1 gave the Buckeyes a 30-27, double-overtime win over Michigan. The Buckeyes wore their 1968 throwback uniforms with the cannonball helmet and exclusive LeBron cleats.
PlayStation Fiesta Bowl vs Clemson – Dec. 31
#2 Tigers 31, #3 Buckeyes 0
Heisman runner-up Deshaun Watson rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another as eventual national champion Clemson blanked Ohio State, 31-0. The Tigers contained the Buckeyes’ offensive attack and forced quarterback J.T. Barrett (No. 16) to throw two interceptions.
