Early enrollee wide receiver Garrett Wilson (No. 5) hauled in a spectacular 18-yard touchdown grab for the Scarlet, but redshirt junior safety Jahsen Wint‘s (No. 23) two interceptions helped the Gray to a win in Ohio State’s annual Spring Game. Quarterbacks – including Georgia transfer Justin Fields (No. 1) – wore the Buckeyes’ black alternate uniform as a non-contact jersey.

Fields threw four touchdown passes and ran for another score in his first-career start – setting the school record for touchdowns in a debut – to lead Ohio State past Florida Atlantic in the season opener. Former quarterback Dwayne Haskins also scored five times in his first start with the Buckeyes (Oregon State in 2018), but he’d already appeared in several games up to that point.

Versatile defensive back Shaun Wade (No. 24) forced a fumble and broke up two passes – one of which was intercepted and the other nearly picked off – as Ohio State shut out in-state rival Cincinnati. The game marked the return of Bearcats head coach Luke Fickell, who was a player, assistant and interim head coach with the Buckeyes.

Back in the stadium where he began his college career, running back J.K. Dobbins (No. 2) rushed for 193 yards and one score, caught one of Fields’ three touchdowns passes and then watched most of the second half from the sideline as Ohio State throttled Indiana.

Fields became the first player to have four passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in the first half of a game since Louisville’s Lamar Jackson in 2016 while leading Ohio State to a blowout win over Miami (Ohio). The Buckeyes wore a helmet decal in honor of 1955 Heisman Trophy winner Howard “Hopalong” Cassady, who passed away on Sept. 20, as well as an “Extra Yard For Teachers” decal to promote the College Football Playoff Foundation’s primary philanthropic endeavor.

Cornerback Jeff Okudah (No. 1) picked off Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez twice in the first half, becoming the first Ohio State play with more than one interception in a game since Marshon Lattimore in 2016, as Ohio State blew out Nebraska in front of yet another sellout crowd in Lincoln.

Dobbins rushed for 177 yards – including a 67-yard touchdown run in the second quarter – as Ohio State overcame a sluggish start to roll past Michigan State. The Buckeyes wore all-black uniforms for the third time in program history, which included a slight change to the front helmet bumper.

Kicker Blake Haubeil (No. 95) booted a career-long 55-yard field goal that tied the second-longest kick in school history and put an exclamation point on Ohio State’s Friday night blowout of Northwestern.

Defensive end Chase Young (No. 2) recorded a school record-tying four sacks and Ohio State limited Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor (No. 23) to a season-low 52 yards in yet another impressive blowout win.

Fields threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score in the first half as Ohio State rolled past Maryland despite missing Young, who was serving the first of a two-game suspension for accepting a loan from a family friend

Wade (No. 24) recorded an interception and a forced fumble on consecutive drives in the first quarter and Ohio State didn’t break a sweat in another blowout win over Rutgers.

Although he had an uncharacteristic second-half fumble, Dobbins rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns to help Ohio State lock up the Big Ten East Division title win a close win over Penn State.

Fields shrugged off a nagging MCL injury to throw four touchdown passes, including a memorable 30-yarder to Wilson in the third quarter, as Ohio State cruised to its school-record eighth straight win over Michigan.

Big Ten Championship vs Wisconsin – Dec. 7

Ohio State overcame a 14-point halftime deficit to knock off Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game and punch its ticket to the College Football Playoff. Fields was named the game’s most valuable player after throwing for 299 yards and three scores.

Dobbins rushed for 142 of his 174 yards and a score in the first half as Ohio State raced out to a 16-0 lead in the College Football Playoff semifinal. But aided by several controversial calls, Clemson came back to win and advance to the national championship. Dobbins finished the season with 2,003 yards, breaking Eddie George‘s single-season school record set in 1995.
